Helen Keller became blind and deaf as a toddler, spent years in isolation in Alabama before beginning instruction with Anne Sullivan at the age of seven. Helen learned not only Braille and English, but Latin, Greek, German and French, completed a degree in honors from Radcliffe College, served on the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, and lectured all over the world to inspire others afflicted. She remained a friend and companion of her teacher, Anne Sullivan, for 49 years, until Anne’s death.
