Rigaberta Menchu Tum was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982.  She wrote of her life in a book, I Rigaberta Menchu, spent much of her adult life seeking to expose  civil rights violations of her people.  During her time at the United Nations, she observed many others who came seeking justice, for all the people in countries where civil rights violations are too common, including Guatemala and El Salvador, Colombia, Burma, Peru, Mexico, Haiti, Kurdistan, Timor, Afghanistan, among others;  all the countries where the poorest citizens tell their stories to the United Nations, praying some day their voices will be heard and heeded.

Things must change.”  R.M.T.
