Brilliantly she wrote from her love of the land, with the knowledge of science, as a biologist aware of what was being done to the planet. Rachel wrote books which made her famous as a writer, then as a scientist who painted the world of tomorrow – trying to wake the world up before it is too late.  Under the Sea Wind and

The Sea Around Us, made Rachel famous. Silent Seas, woke a nation from its ignorance and greed-benumbed sleep. She wrote of the dangers of releasing chemicals into streams and rivers and seas, chemicals of artificially twisted genes, excising or adding little arms of other elements that never would have, in Nature, joined together. These chemicals, Rachel said, are untested, there’s no long-term proof any of this is any good; the insects only adapt, grow harder to kill; with each new batch of dark brew, Nature has stronger poison to swallow.
